Zero Emission Vehicles

Assisting communities in planning for cleaner municipal and private vehicle fleets, public charging and fueling infrastructure, and equitable opportunities in the transition towards zero emission vehicles.

SRPEDD is committed to planning for zero emission vehicles.

Southeastern Massachusetts is poised for a dramatic increase in zero emission vehicle adoption in the coming decades due to a variety of factors including federal and state greenhouse gas emission reduction targets, tax incentives for consumers, and regulatory changes for automakers. The transition to zero emission vehicles will bring new challenges for public agencies, businesses, and consumers, but these challenges must be met head on with resolve and common purpose. There are few viable pathways available to transition our economy away from fossil fuels in the coming decades, and electrification of our transportation system, particularly through mode shift towards public transit, E-bikes, and light-duty electric vehicles, are a few of the proven technologies available today that can rapidly reduce emissions on a timeline that meets our 2050 goals. For more information on zero-emission vehicle planning at SRPEDD please review our Regional Transportation Plan.
