Now a quaint suburban community with strong ties to neighboring Rhode Island and Providence, Seekonk (whose name possibly means “black goose” – the symbol of a goose in flight is used on the Town Seal) is home to the Caratunk Wildlife Refuge, which hosts nearly 200 acres of fields, forests, streams, and ponds, with miles of well-marked trails for hiking and bird watching, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. The town is home to the Seekonk Speedway, an entertainment venue that features short-track racing, including NASCAR events, that can be heard from miles around!
