Rebecca Karp is Founding Principal and CEO of Karp Strategies. Utilizing a data-informed, human-centered, and place-based approach, Rebecca has grown her WBE-, SBE- and DBE- certified company of 35+ into one of the leading women-owned urban planning, economic development, and real estate advisory businesses in the New York region.

With extensive experience in planning, analysis and stakeholder development, Rebecca is a trusted advisor to real estate developers, energy companies, community organizations, and government agencies across the nation. Across its practice areas of economic development, renewable energy, and real estate, Karp Strategies has been proud to advance many of the most important and challenging projects along the East Coast. Karp Strategies works across sectors in urban development, supporting agencies, developers, original equipment manufacturers, academia, and non profit organizations advance community economic development strategies, outreach and engagement initiatives, workforce development and career pathways programs, and ports and real estate strategies.

Under Rebecca’s leadership, Karp Strategies conducted real estate, economic, and workforce analyses to inform the City of Middletown, Connecticut’s recent masterplan for their underutilized waterfront. The firm is currently working with Hatch on evaluation criteria, stakeholder engagement, and capital plan development for the creation of a Comprehensive Strategic Facility Plan for the Port of Philadelphia. The firm has worked across New England, from supporting the economic development strategic plan for South Portland, Maine, to conducting operations and fiscal analysis of Massachusetts’ four state owned piers, spending time in Fall River, New Bedford, Plymouth, and Gloucester. More recently, Karp Strategies worked with Karl Seidman Consulting to conduct a more advanced feasibility study of the New Bedford state pier, assessing the potential for a range of uses that align with the town’s strong maritime economy and the growth of offshore wind. The firm supported several more rural Massachusetts communities, working with municipalities Grafton, Mendon and Upton to conduct deep stakeholder and economic analyses to best develop their respective Local Rapid Recovery Plan Programs.

Rebecca is a member of the American Planning Association, ABNY, Urban Land Institute, Regional Plan Association Energy Committee, and International Economic Development Council, and also is an adjunct professor at Columbia University’s School of Preservation, Architecture, and Planning. She is an alumna of Interise’s Strategic Steps for Growth MBA at NYU Stern, MIT DUSP, Bowdoin College, and Coro Leadership New York. Scallops landed in New Bedford are her favorite seafood.
