Memorandums of Understanding

The Southeastern Massachusetts Metropolitan Planning Organization (SMMPO) Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) define the partnership between state agencies, local governments, transit agencies and bordering MPO’s. They ensure a cooperative, continuous, and comprehensive (3C) planning process that complies with federal, state, and local laws.

Memorandums of Understanding

To support regional planning projects, from highway to public transit, the Southeastern Massachusetts Metropolitan Planning Organization (SMMPO) works under several Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) that span community/MPO and state boundaries. These MOUs detail an agreement between all parties for coordination, data sharing and collaborative planning efforts. These partnerships are necessary to ensure that transportation planning activities are conducted in a cooperative, comprehensive, and continuous (3-C) manner.
