Project Background
In the 27 communities of Southeastern Massachusetts, no other population is projected to experience as much growth in the next decades as people over 65 years of age. This will require our communities to adapt to changing needs in mobility, transportation access, and other facets of everyday life. SRPEDD is responding to older adult needs identified in previous projects and collaborating with local partners across the region to develop a Regional Age-Friendly Plan.
Age-Friendly Mobility - Southeast Mass is a regional effort to:
1) Identify trends, needs, and gaps;
2) Set priorities; and
3) Support local action toward making changes that improve livability, accessibility, and inclusivity of transportation for people of all ages, with a focus on helping older people live well.
- Informed by detailed data analysis — including spatial, demographic, and public input — this Plan will serve as a roadmap to guide future technical assistance, funding, policy, and planning decisions in the region in partnership with various stakeholders toward encouraging healthy aging.
- The Plan will prioritize top areas for improvements and specific, achievable recommendations in transportation and mobility infrastructure while also drawing connections to housing, food access, and open spaces.
SRPEDD is a regional resource for local change, uniquely positioned to lead this age-friendly planning work. As a planning agency serving 27 cities and towns, SRPEDD assists local governments by connecting the dots between community needs and the funding, outreach, and planning resources that can address them.
In addition to coordinating with our cities and towns, we partner with GATRA and SRTA to ensure that transportation systems serve all users — including older adults, people with disabilities, and underserved populations.
