Advancing active transportation networks with data-informed decision making
Understanding how many people walk and bike is an important part of transportation planning. This data helps communities better understand how local transportation networks are used and where improvements may be most helpful. SRPEDD collects bicycle and pedestrian counts using automated sensors placed at locations across the region. These counts show how people use sidewalks, shared-use paths, and trails over time, helping measure trends, identify high-use areas, and evaluate the impact of new projects. SRPEDD works with cities and towns to identify counting locations and manages the full installation, maintenance, and data collection process, sharing results to support planning for safer, more accessible, and more connected communities.
